Meet Jess Locke

She's an ELLA regular, and blessed our screens as MCTV's first EVER performer. We love her, and it's time for you to get to know her too.

Tomato sauce: fridge or pantry?
It mysteriously travels between both.

You can pick one superpower - what is it and why?
Flying - who wouldn’t want to fly?

What inspired you to get into music?
I had a fairly musical family, so it was kind of all around me as a kid. I had a dad and brother who taught and encouraged me to play from a young age and then I started writing my own songs. I never really thought about it. It just seemed like the completely natural thing for me to do.

Fave gig you’ve ever been to?
That’s hard. So many great shows, but for best overall production I would have to say The Flaming Lips ( at The Palais in Melbourne and then the Fortitude Valley Music Hall in Brisbane) because they rock and I’ve never seen so many balloons in my life.

You can collaborate with any artist from around the world, past or present. Who is it?
Yoko Ono. No matter what we made, I think we would have fun.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing right now?
I’d probably be a psychologist or at least working somewhere in that field. I was studying a few years ago, but I stopped so I could go on tour and never went back…

What’s your go-to Karaoke song?
Avril Lavigne, “I’m With You”
