Mask Off

Look, masks are an essential part of our day to day life here in Melbourne and will be for a little while longer. Jemma McBride, National Educator at Kiehl’s and our newest bestie takes us through how we can keep our skin hydrated and prevent breakouts during lockdown.

You’re on a desert island and you only get to take three skincare products with you - what are they and why?
Given that it’s a desert island, I would definitely have to take an SPF! My favourite is Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defence CC Cream. Ultra Facial Cream would be the next item on my list, closely followed by our Powerful-strength Vitamin C eye Serum.

What can I do about stress-related breakouts?
Stress related breakouts can be caused due to a change in stress hormones which affects the skin. Firstly, it’s important to take steps to manage stress levels. When it comes to skincare, ingredients like cannabis sativa seed oil which is rich in fatty acids, and botanic derived oils such as the squalene in our Ultra Facial Range help to strengthen the skin barrier. When we have a stronger barrier our skin is better at self-regulating. Antimicrobial ingredients like oregano oil help to purify and treat blemish prone skin, while Ingredients like sulfur and salicylic are proven acne treatments. Our Calendula Range is great for soothing skin and can assist with blemishes.

What foods can I eat to improve my overall complexion?
Our skin is a reflection of our overall health, so diet is very important! Drinking lots of water plus foods that are rich in antioxidants, Omega Fatty Acids and Vitamin C can all help with our completion.

Redness … How do I make it go away?
Go back to basics and focus on products that repair the skins barrier like our Ultra Facial Range. Calming ingredients like those found in our Calendula and Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Ranges can also help to reduce redness. For super sensitive  skins in need of repair, our Centella Cica Range which contains centella asatica work best.

Tips for treating dry or dehydrated skin?
Dryness is a lack of oil, whereas dehydration is the lack of water, and both are super important! Our skin cells need water to function properly.  All skin types can suffer from dehydration, even oily skin. There are many causes for dehydration, one being that the skin barrier is weak which leads to trans epidermal water loss. To treat dehydration, its best use ingredients like Plant Based Glycerine and Hyaluronic Acid – they both act like moisture magnets, drawing hydration to the skin. My top pick is our Hydro Plumping
For Dryness, ingredients like Squalene and Fatty Acids

Hyaluronic acid … Is it as good as Kourtney Kardashian says it is?
It sure is! Our new Vital Skin-Strengthening Super serum actually contains 11kda Hyaluronic Acid, which is our smallest molecule yet and absorbs much deeper than standard hyaluronic. It creates a supple, resilient and

Secret to a simple and easy self-care skincare routine?
The secret to a good skincare routine is having consistency and using quality ingredients. Investing in a barrier repairing moisturiser like Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream can change your skin dramatically.
