Started in 2009 by Rebecca Scott & Kate Barrelle, STREAT has come a long way from its beginnings in a single mobile street food cart. Having evolved their offer to include an extremely popular cafe at Melbourne Central as well as 4 others, a catering company, bakery and coffee roasting company, they’ve recently added Cromwell STREAT to their portfolio of social enterprise businesses.
In addition to serving fantastic food and drinks, STREAT offers at-risk young people a suite of programs including hospitality short courses, a Certificate II program, work experience opportunities and a creative arts program.
Since 2010 STREAT has trained and supported over 520 young people, and they've helped serve meals and coffees to over 1.5 million customers. Their newly opened Cromwell STREAT location will enable them to increase this support to 365 youths each year by 2018.
They have frequently been recognised as a strong Australian social enterprise innovator (winning Most Innovative Australian Social Enterprise 2013, Finalist in 2012 Cool Company Awards, winner of Melbourne’s 2013 Business 3000 Award in social enterprise, Finalist in the 2014 Ethical Enterprise, a winner in the 2015 Australian Social Enterprise Awards). CEO, Rebecca Scott, received the Victorian Local Hero Award for 2016 and has also received Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for 2016 from Ernst and Young and the Commonwealth Bank.
