From Knox Place to Menzies Alley, all corners of Melbourne Central are spending May celebrating the history of our famous laneways and the art and culture that make them so great. In the middle of it all is another massive day of food, fashion, art and entertainment, when One Day Shopping Festival returns on Wednesday 20 May. Go back in time on a free laneway tour, grab a snap of your friends in front of our favourite street art landmarks in our Photo Booth, and see how some of Melbourne’s best sketchers and Instagrammers interpret the laneways in a new exhibition.

SEW YOUR OWN ADVENTURE
Sew your way around Melbourne! Artist Tarli Bird has stitched up a limited edition map of our corner of the city and will be selling these and other wares during One Day Shopping Festival. Pick one up and craft your journey around Melbourne Central and our surrounds.

BRIGHT NOTES PIANO PERFORMANCES
Take in an intimate performance by some of Melbourne’s most dedicated musicians at our Bright Notes piano.
Morning Ritual founder Ali Bird and The Music Generation's founder Meera Fernandes have hand-picked a selection of Melbourne’s best emerging talents.

MENZIES ALLEY HAWKERS MARKET
The historic Menzies Alley is transforming into an outdoor food market and transporting us to South East Asia! Our newest foodie faves at Monkey King, Chill Bro, Uncle Jung and Saigon Square will be frying, grilling and dishing up mouth-watering dishes at this special pop-up.

WALK TO ART TOUR
Find out the fascinating stories behind some of Melbourne Central’s most famous artworks. From the Lucy Lucy and Slicer mural in Menzies Alley to the floating Hamish Munro sculpture on Level 2, Bernadette Alibrando will share all there is to know on her free Walk to Art Tour. Meet at the Guest Service Desk on Level 1.

UNLOCKED TOURS – LANEWAY EDITION
Local historian Dale Campisi will be leading curious minds on a special laneway-themed edition of his Unlocked Tours. The classic route winds through Melbourne Central and reveals all the secrets of the historic Shot Tower, beloved Marionette Watch and astonishing Glass Cone. This free new tour promises to be just as eye-opening! Meet at the Guest Service Desk on Level 1.

URBAN SKETCHERS EXHIBITION
See how the sketchers see our corner of the city in a new exhibition of one-of-a-kind drawings by Melbourne’s Urban Sketchers group. Their interpretations will be displayed in the Glass Cube on Level 2.

THE LANEWAY ASSEMBLY PHOTO BOOTH
Grab a pic in front of a unique Melbourne backdrop in the ever-popular ODSF photobooth! Bring your friends, say cheese and take a printout of your happy snap home with you! We’ll share a bumper gallery of photos on our Facebook page the next day to give everyone their 15 minutes of photo fame.

Melbourne’s best loved local graffiti artists will take on fellow street artists in a live showdown. They’ll be painting unique new works inspired by Melbourne historic laneways in one of our own – Knox Place. Drop by throughout the day so see them fight it out!

It wouldn’t be One Day Shopping Festival without our Treasure Hunt! The first 200 people in line at 10am will receive a list of clues, and the faster you solve them, the faster your tote bag will be filled with gifts. This time we’re offering one extra special bonus prize, but you’ll need to be following MELBCENTRAL on Snapchat to find out what it is and how to win it. Happy sleuthing!

THE GENTS PRESENT: MELBOURNE PRECINCTS
The Gents (aka Dale Campisi and Brady Michaels) have hopped, skipped and jumped along nearly every street and lane in Melbourne to find the city's best shops, bars, eateries and other hangouts for their must-have guide, Melbourne Precincts. Meet The Gents at the Little Library, where you can pick up a freshly signed copy of Melbourne Precincts, get some hot tips on things to do in the city and pose in front of an iconic Melbourne backdrop, #gentsmelbourne style.
