Centre information & announcements.
As we welcome you back to MC, you'll see additional safety measures in place around the centre to make your next visit a safe one.

The well-being, comfort and safety of our shoppers, retailers and staff remains our number one priority.

We're excited for our retailers to open and while we look forward to seeing you in centre again soon, some of the requirements of entry have changed. We encourage you to get familiar with the Victorian DHHS and Government guidelines and what is required of you when visiting our centres and retailers depending on your vaccination status.

In line with the Department of Health and Human Services recent announcement that only Tier 1 COVID-19 exposure sites will be listed online from 4 October 2021 onwards, Melbourne Central will continue to follow the Department’s advice and only list Tier 1 exposure details within the centre on our website moving forward.

For customers who may receive direct communications from DHHS regarding a potential Tier 2 exposure at Melbourne Central, please continue to follow the directions as advised by DHHS at the time and visit www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au for further information.  
 
The comfort and safety of our customers, tenants, contractors and staff at Melbourne Central remains our utmost priority at all times.


From 21 October at 11:59pm, eased restrictions will allow:

  • Personal services such as hairdressing, barbers, beauty therapy and personal care to open under the 4sqm rule, open for fully vaccinated people, capped at 5 people.
  • Restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs are open indoors to 20 fully vaccinated people, 50 seated externally (outdoor only).
  • Essential retail will remain open to both vaccinated and non vaccinated customers. 
  • Non-essential retail remains closed – click & collect only.


From 29 October at 6pm:

We're excited to welcome you back in centre to enjoy our full range of stores and services from Friday 29th October at 6pm when the state reaches it's vaccination target of 80% double dose. 

In order to ensure all customers, retailers and staff can enjoy our centre safely, please see below for the latest government restrictions which must be adhered to when shopping with us.

ESSENTIAL & NON-ESSENTIAL RETAIL

In line with VIC Government restrictions (as of 29th October at 5pm) all retail is allowed to operate with the below restrictions:
 
  • 1 person per 4sqm
  • Customers must check in with the VIC Services QR code on arrival 
  • Masks are required for all customers over the age of 12 years old 


RESTAURANTS & DINING

In line with VIC Government restrictions hospitality venues and restaurants are allowed to operate for seated service only with the below restrictions:
 
  • 1 person per 4sqm indoors (up to 25 patrons for smaller venues), fully vaccinated patrons 
  • All customers must be fully vaccinated
  • Customers must check in with the VIC Services QR code on arrival and provide proof of vaccination
  • All hospitality staff are required to wear a mask whilst working (both indoors and outdoors)
  • Masks are required for all customers over the age of 12 years old when dining indoors


FOOD COURTS

  • In line with VIC Government restrictions foodcourts are allowed to operate with the below restrictions:
  • 1 person per 4sqm indoors
  • Masks are required indoors, however, can be removed to consume food or drink.


GYMS

In line with VIC Government restrictions gyms and indoor sports venues are allowed to operate with the below restrictions:

  • 1 person per 4sqm indoors. All clients must be fully vaccinated
  • 1 person per 2sqm, capped at 500 patrons regardless of vaccination status outdoors
  • Clients must check in with the VIC Services QR code on arrival and provide proof of vaccination
  • All clients and staff over the age of 12 years old must wear a mask whilst indoors 


HAIR, MASSAGE AND BEAUTY THERAPY

In line with VIC Government restrictions personal services such as hairdressing, barbers, beauty therapy and personal care are allowed to operate with the below restrictions:

  • 1 person per 4sqm
  • All clients must be fully vaccinated 
  • Clients must check in with the VIC Services QR code on arrival and provide proof of vaccination
  • Clients and staff over the age of 12 years old must remain masked for the duration of the appointment


ENTERTAINMENT PROVIDERS

In line with VIC Government restrictions seated and non-seated entertainment venues including cinemas, theatres and music halls are allowed to operate with the below restrictions:

  • 1 person per 4sqm (non-seated)
  • 1 person per 4sqm, 75% capacity up to 1000 patrons (seated)
  • All customers must be fully vaccinated
  • Customers must check in with the VIC Services QR code on arrival and provide proof of vaccination
  • All customers and staff over the age of 12 years old must remain masked whilst indoors


When you're here at MC, we encourage you to:

  • Plan your visit: We have handy shop safe tips on our website including information on best parking suggestions, trading hours, details on essential and non-essential retailers and requirements of entry to ensure your visit is a smooth one
  • Check In: Use the Services Victoria App and check in via QR codes upon entry to Melbourne Central and when visiting each retailer premises.
  • Be Kind: Be respectful to retailers and staff. They're working hard to provide a safe and enjoyable retail experience for all shoppers while abiding by Health & Government orders.
  • Mask Up: Ensure you wear a mask or face covering at all times when visiting MC. This is a mandatory condition of entry unless a valid exemption applies.
  • Practice Physical Distancing: Keeping a social distance of at least 1.5m metres is important for both the safety and comfort of all shoppers, staff and visitors.


We’ve also taken some extra steps within our centre to ensure it is a safe place for you, including:

  • Additional security, customer service staff and COVID-19 Marshals in-centre monitoring check ins, customer flow and COVID safe protocols.
  • Increased cleaning rotations and sanitisation services on top the heightened hygiene measures previously in place.
  • Refreshed COVID Safe messages in-centre reminding visitors of entry conditions and more efficient customer way-finding to help you navigate MC.
