Self Care with ReachOut

make a move

This October is Mental Health Month. Our besties at ReachOut are encouraging you to join them to Make a Move to not only improve your mental health, but also raise money to help prevent youth suicide.

In Australia, 1 in 4 young people live with a mental health difficulty, with 70 percent of them not getting the help they need. Youth suicide is the leading cause of death amongst young people in this country, but it doesn't have to be. Your support could make a HUGE difference.

All you have to do is dedicate 15, 30 or 60 minutes every day in October to either move your body, improve your state of mind, or a combination of both! It's that simple.

Exercise not for you?

Yeah, it's not for us either, but ReachOut have come up with a few ways that you can trick yourself into moving when it's not really your jam.

1. Start a social sports team
If the idea of going to the gym fills you with dread, what better way to exercise than by playing a social sport? It's a great way to hang out with your pals, but also meet new people!

2. Walk as much as you can
Ditch the car wherever you can and enjoy the glorious Summer weather! It’s good for your health, it allows you to slow down and take notice of your surroundings and if you’re stuck inside all day, it’s a nice change from staring at a screen

3. Dance
Yes, we know the clubs aren't open, but they don't have to be to let loose! Put on your fave tunes, let yourself ✨feel✨ the music and most importantly, have fun!

checking in with yourself

It's more important now than ever to make sure you're checking in with yourself when you’re not feeling so hot. With so much going on in the world, it's tough to pinpoint what's wrong.

Slow down, take a breath and reflect on how you’re dealing with everything. Maybe you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything on your plate, or feeling down and unmotivated because you’ve lost some of your routine or favourite hobbies.

Take this quiz to check in with yourself. The team at ReachOut will help you discover what’s going well, and how you can improve what isn’t going so well.
