Meet Jemma McBride

We thought y'all should get to know the fabulous Jemma McBride, the National Educator at Kiehl's. She knows EVERYTHING about skin care - and gave us the down low.

Tell us a bit your role at Kiehl’s and how you got into beauty…
I am lucky enough to be the National Educator for Kiehl’s! I started my career as a beauty therapist 14 years ago and have worked in salon, pharmacy, sales and education. I am still just as passionate about the industry as I was when I started

AM to PM, what’s a typical day like for you….
I get to work with some pretty creative and cool humans! My day consists of running education classes virtually with my amazing team of Skincare Experts, getting creative and filming with Gina (our Kommunity and social media manager), running virtual masterclasses, planning upcoming education events, answering skincare questions and connecting with our talented Retail and Education Field team. I am also completing a degree in Health Science (Dermal aesthetics) so I manage fit that in there as well!

Serums… Do they live up to the hype?
Absolutely! Especially those containing actives. I like layering mine, but I try to stick to no more than 2 at a time. For anyone new to serums, I would start with our Vital Skin-Strengthening Super Serum – it’s great for all skins and will strengthen and protect the skin from daily stressors. Smells amazing too!

Spill it! Secrets to a healthy skincare routine…
Don’t underestimate the power of hydration! Our skin cells need water to function so hydration is the key to great skin! A strong skin barrier is also pretty important too!

What are the biggest skincare trends RN?
Masks have been huge recently, however I think we will start to see healthy skin essentials make a bit of a come-back. The focus will be on time efficient routines that get real results. My top pick for this is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream because it hydrates and strengthens the skin barrier.

Products with a dermatology focus will be huge – we have a whole range called “dermatologist solutions” dedicated to this. Our two Vitamin C serums (Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and clearly Corrective) are my top picks in this range!

Kiehl’s Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Collection will continue to trend. It’s great for stressed and problem skin.

Sheet mask or cream mask?
I love a good cream mask (or two)! They last ages, are so versatile and great for multi-masking. My favourite at the moment is our Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energising Radiance mask.

Is exfoliating actually good for your skin?
Yes! Our skin naturally exfoliates or sheds in a really uneven and random way. So, we often have patches of dead skin cells that make the skin look dull, textured, and prevent our skincare from absorbing evenly.

Top tips to fix uneven skin tone?
Vitamin C and plenty of SPF!

The holy grail of eye-creams....
This is an easy one to answer… Our Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Dark-Circle Diminishing eye serum is a must have! It reduces puffiness, dark circles, crows feet, lines and wrinkles – it basically does everything!

What are you most looking forward to post lockdown...
Being able to give our Kiehl’s Skincare Experts a hug, closely followed by getting my nails done!
