Hello, I’m Mark C aka Mel Burners

My Instagram handle is: @_melburners_

I've been playing records at Melbourne Record Club events since: 2017

How did you get into vinyl?
I was interested in the old-school hip-hop era DJs like Grandmaster Flash & Marley Marl, so I got into that kind of music and started finding out about records through the golden age of sample-based hip-hop.

What was your very first record?
The first one I bought with my own money was the New Jack City movie soundtrack back in 1991, mostly because of the title track by Ice-T.

What is your go-to record store in Melb?
Wax Museum is my spot, heaps of hip-hop & funk to dig through.

Which three records would you take to a deserted island?
Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys, Célia's self-titled album from 1972 and Awakening by Hiroshi Sato & Wendy Matthews

Finally; does tomato sauce belong in the fridge or pantry?

My dad always played his records on the weekends and I've been steadily pilfering them for the last couple of years

That I bought? It was likely to have been something like the weird brass band covers album of Lennon-McCartney songs I bought from a Box Hill opshop sometime in 1996..

What is your go-to record store in Melb?
I've probably spent the most time and money at Goldmine in Nth Fitzroy I guess.

Which three records would you take to a deserted island?
Gawd, to play or to make shelter with? The answers would be very different!  No idea really, depends on the week - but there would be some ELO, some Beatles and mayyyyyybe some Deep Purple?

Name a music genre which deserves more attention.
